Church of the Transfiguration
For 15 years, I worked in a school that rented space in this building. I met many wonderful people, but sadly I was also required to work with too many people who were rude and narcissistic making the every day work of running a school or business in this building extremely difficult. Space was double rented - for example, we did not have access to the kitchen when camps where run, and we were not informed until too late that we would not be able to use the kitchen as our operating license required. We worked hard to be good tenants often helping the ‘building’s clients’ get up and down stairs for example. But it was rarely reciprocated as our clients often had the door pulled closed in their face and were told to ring the bell. My staff had been threatened, once ducking to avoid a punch from the husband of a church employee. We were not allowed signage though our school was only accessible at the rear of the building, yet the other school was permitted to put their sandwich board out daily. They were also allowed to leave their door unlocked every day but we were punished, tattled on, whenever we left the rear door unlocked. We cleaned up the mold challenges ourselves, but the church cleaned it up for the other school - though they also allowed vulnerable children to walk back and forth while this dangerous work was being done. My list is way longer than can be put here in a review but let me end with Kamilini who on September 2018 had a screaming fit with a teacher in the other school. I will always regret that I didn’t step in, that I didn’t call the police - and then she didn’t talk to the teacher for a year. The church owes her a significant apology. That is the kind of environment we have all tried to work in and make work, while paying rent no less. She didn’t talk with me either - after yelling at me to tell my cleaners that they had to change what they used on the washroom floors. I never did tell her, my cleaners hadn’t started yet.No one deserves to be yelled at. I miss my little school and the wonderful things we did, and I miss walking to work, but there is nothing I miss about working in that vituperative/abusive environment. They should not be allowed to rent, and they should have to undergo training in how work with others. I once considered attending this church, glad I didn't.
